Hello Cheese and Wine Lovers!
The Three Lakes wine region welcomes us in October to share its unique and exquisite flavors! The Bern terroir invites us to taste this month a very special and unforgettable variety to the palate, the Solaris!
About the region
In the canton of Bern, the vineyards flourish on the southeastern slopes of Lake Biel, this area is the second largest (222 hectares) of the Three Lakes region after Neuchâtel. The vines benefit from the reflection of the sun on the lake and the microclimates of terraced cultivation. The dry, rocky southeastern shores of Lake Biel are characterized by limestone which is ideal for growing Chasselas, the most widely planted variety, as well as Chardonnay, Pinot noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer, and Sauvignon Blanc. However, the winemakers of this region have gained recognition for producing “specialties” with other planted varieties which are often in high demand and with very limited stock.
One of the specialties we want to share with you is the Solaris 2020 wine from the Tschanz winery located in the municipality of Twann in Biel.
Heinz Tschanz and his wife Gabriela are the second generation to run this family winery that was founded in the early 1960s. Although not officially recognized as an organic winery, they work under a philosophy of respect for the environment, using as little pesticides and chemicals as possible, working according to the lunar phases, and in harmony with the indigenous microorganisms.
Twanner Solaris Bielersee AOC
The Twanner Solaris Bielersee AOC is a simply fun and very exotic wine! It is straw yellow in color, with aromas of passion fruit, pineapple, and papaya. A lively acidity, tropical fruit, and honey flavors, it is a wine with a certain sweetness due to the residual sugar it has, but thanks to its freshness and lightness it can be enjoyed in the mouth for much longer. It is a light wine but one you will not forget, enjoy it with our selection of cheeses!
Cheese and wine pairing
The Solaris wine is an extraordinary companion to Charme de Möser cheese. Thanks to its creamy texture and light acidity it creates a delicious harmony in the mouth, leaving a velvety sensation. The unique flavors of hay and tropical fruits linger so long that it is difficult to forget them.
On the other hand, the wine makes a delicious teamwork with the Délice de Schönried. The creaminess of the cheese is well received by the acidity of the wine, making the cheese melt and coat our mouth with a unique texture, the light milky sweetness and the hints of herbs make a delicious pairing with the tropical and semi-dry profile of the wine. These pairings are almost like magic!
This October, L’Atelier du Fromage wants you to have an unparalleled, flavorful and delicious apéro evening. Enjoy the canton of Bern with the charming selection of cheeses and wines that we bring for you in our Apéro Box.
